Conference Overview

We are excited to announce the 5th Annual U.S.-Africa Cultural Expo, Business Matchmaking & Awards Conference to be held in at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Austin Texas from May 9th through May 12th, 2019.
 
The 5th Annual U.S.-Africa Cultural Expo and Business Matchmaking Conference is a Four-day event that promotes Africa cultures and provides a platform for African and American businesses and entrepreneurs to find mutually-beneficial business opportunities and explore potential business partnerships in the United States and in Africa. The conference also provides networking opportunities with high level government officials and decision makers to facilitate international business deals with Africa.
 
Through a variety of artistic performances, workshops, panels and interactive round-table discussions, conference attendees will engage with top experts focusing on economic development and diversification. The conference offers an unique opportunity to exchange  with local, national and international business leaders, government decision makers and industry professionals and to maximize bilateral economy trade between U.S. and Africa.

The African Union Representational Mission to the USA is under the leadership of H.E. Amb. Dr. Arikana Chihombori Quao. The AU Mission to the USA is calling on all people of African Descent in the diaspora, to come together under a single platform for the development of the continent. In light of the Union’s Agenda 2063, the Ambassador's objective is to mobilize its citizens in different formations, effective communication, and outreach as well as sustained and inclusive social dialogue among its people.

Larry Tabash Senior International Trade Specialist, Speaker

Larry Tabash is a Senior International Trade Specialist and Middle East expert for the U.S. Department of Commerce/U.S. Commercial Service in Austin, TX. He has held positions overseas with both the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of State as a Senior Business Advisor in Iraq working on infrastructure development and capacity building. He has traveled throughout the Middle East and Europe and worked extensively in those markets assisting companies in finding suitable American partners. He has led trade missions to Asia and the Middle East.

A native of Washington, DC, Mr. Tabash’s personal and career pursuits have taken him to over 40 countries in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Commerce in 1998, he worked as a Senior Project Manager for Visa Interactive which later became Integrion Financial Network, a start-up electronic bill payment company in Reston, Virginia and for Riggs National Bank as a Senior Sales & Service Representative and Loan Officer.

Larry also worked as a Program Officer for AMIDEAST Inc., where he administered USAID and privately-funded training programs and worked on business development for the organization. He has more than 20 years of experience in international trade, business, and banking. Larry earned both his bachelor’s degree in International Studies and his master's degree in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Dr. Marie Asher Baptiste was born in Haiti and raised in Houston, Texas since 1987. She is the founder and the owner of Haitian Multicultural Association (HMA), Millennial Women Business Council & Empowerment (MWBCE), and Who A M I Project (WAIP). She is a writer, counselor, Mother, wife, global activist, Philanthropist, motivational speaker, transformational Quantum Leader, and brand strategist. Dr. Baptiste holds a bachelor’s of science in biology and education from University of Houston-Victoria, Masters in Education and Mental Health Counseling, from Lamar University, Masters in Criminal Justice from Lamar University, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Keiser University; Honorary Doctorate in Ministry Leadership from Asbury Theological Seminary. She is a member of the American Association of Counselors, Federation of Teachers, Mental Health Association, American Psychological Association, Sigma Iota Tau, Black Sociologist Association, Progressive Haitian Alliance, and Caribbean Chamber of Commerce. Since 2003, she has been Executive Director for the Haitian Outreach and responsible for the program at Haitian Multicultural Association in Texas and Haiti.
Dr. Baptiste holds the Vice President of Caribbean Chamber of Commerce -Texas position since 2012. In that role, she manages the strategic fiscal and programmatic goals for the Caribbean Chamber of Commerce and Millennial Women Business Council International. She also serves as a spokesperson for economic development and business in Caribbean and Africa. Her bi-cultural background and focus on community collaboration has led her to a number of volunteer opportunities and community leadership roles. Dr. Baptiste has vast experienced in data analysis, strategic planning, training, change management, process analysis and alignment, curriculum development, grant writing, conflict negotiation and political climate navigation. She served as the deputy voter registrar for Fort Bend County since 2015 in effort to boast the voting rate in the county.
Dr. Baptiste serve as campaign coordinator for precinct 3 elected officials. In 2009, Dr. Baptiste managed strategic planning for several public and private organizations, including development of mission statements, clarification of objectives, coordination of planning teams, and achieving acceptance and implementation of plans. Dr. Baptiste has proven experience as CEO in other managerial position. She has experienced in developing profitable strategies and implementing vision. She has strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles.
Dr. Baptiste Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, public relation, finance; and in-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practice make her an asset to corporations. Dr. Baptiste entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills, her analytical abilities and problem-solving skills, and excellent communication and public speaking skills afford her to be sought out speaker and strategist economic development globally. Dr. Baptiste has served as a board member for a variety of civic and government organizations, she was appointed to the boards of Maires Association of south of Haiti Economic Development and Mayor International Council in Houston.
Dr. Baptiste is an advocate for the development of Haiti and protection and empowerment of Haitian people in Haiti and throughout the world. She coordinates humanitarian aid to Haiti by partnering with American organizations that share the mission and is dedicated to raising the pride of African womanhood throughout the diaspora. As an educator working in the public school system, she discovered many girls face self-esteems issues and abuse. She decided to embark on a journey of health self esteem design from God to empower young girls and women around the world. Dr. Baptiste adopted her motto from Belva Davis quote, “ Don’t be afraid of the space between your dreams and reality. If you can dream it, you can achieve it.”
